MEMBERS HAVE BANNED THE USE OF
“CHEMICAL REACTION TARGETS” ON THE RANGES
Importance Notice
– effective immediately non-members may not discharge firearms on
the club property without completing an insurance Waiver, Release
and Assumption of Risk Agreement. This means that all non-members
who wish to shoot at the club on any range (the shotgun ranges, 200
yard range and rim fire/ archery range) must sign this release prior
to shooting. This will effect all shooting events to include Trap
Shoots, Skeet shoots, 22 bench rest matches, ARA matches, hunter
training classes (both rifle & bow courses), sight-in day and any
non-member guests on the ranges. A supply of the waivers will be
available at the 200-yard range building for guest shooters. Any
member who allows a guest to shoot on the ranges without first
completing the waiver may face revocation or suspension of their
membership. We regret this inconvenience, but to continue our
insurance coverage, we must comply.
A waiver must be
completed each time a guest comes to the club.

Harvest info has not been tallied yet. Reported harvest for southern
zone was very similar to reported harvest from last year. In 2010,
reported harvest was 73,700 vs the 2011 reported harvest of 73,499.
Cutters in most countries reported banner-opening weekends. Checkers
anecdotally reported see a high number of adult males in the
harvest-opening weekend as well, especially in Orange County. We'll see
what the numbers show. Reporting rate and estimated total harvest have
yet to be calculated. Lack of mast production (acorns) seemed to make
it difficult for bow hunters that hunt oak forests, especially since
reports indicate the peak of rutting behavioral was a little bit later
this year.
I'll be requesting dates to set up a meeting in the
office in February. I'll keep you posted. Onteora Lake: I have not heard
back from the Lands & Forests folks since I spoke to them last about
this during the Fall.
Vernooy Kill: I proposed a new stocking policy for the
section from just below the Cutler Road Bridge up to Pottersville. This
is a 5.7 mile section of new water. The proposal is for a total of 2,390
brook trout (1,825 in April and 565 in May/June.) I have not heard
anything indicating that it will be denied, so I expect that it will be
approved. Thanks, again for all your help in finding some drop points
for the fish to go in.
Lower Esopus: Where do I begin? A lot has been going on.
In October, an interim protocol was developed and agreed upon between
NYC DEP and DEC. This incorporated all the comments and discussions we
have had to date with the ARWG, but it was a compromise for almost all
parties. It is only an interim protocol, and more clear time line for
the next steps should become apparent in the next month. I have
attached a copy of the Interim Protocol. I should have more to report on
this in February.
The good news is that electrofishing surveys in the
spring & summer showed good results for the lower Esopus Creek fishery
despite the turbid flows last fall and winter. NYC DEP has been drawing
Ashokan down enough so that the high releases may soon be reduced. As
per the Interim Protocol they should curtail the high releases once they
reach 90% capacity at Ashokan.
Ashokan has been slowly clearing up, so even if the
releases are not scaled way back the water will hopefully continue to
clear over the water.
Let them know about the date for the February meeting. If
I get any new information about Onteora Lake before Thursday’s meeting.
I will let you know.

– Rose-Marie Pomerantz – read an e-mail from her son.
I would
first like to thank all of you for the love & support you have shared
for all of us here.
I speak on behalf of all my Full-Bellied Battle
Buddies. That it is AMERICANS like you that we gladly sacrifice for. I
know that there are probably many that there that have been in our
shoes, probably when it was a lot tougher to do what we do and
understand how important it is to know that there are people back home
that love and care for us, whether they are family, friends or just
thankful Americans that are proud of our Military.
I can't begin to show my gratitude for all that all of
you done so far. It is almost like Christmas when the masses of boxes
arrived. Everyone eager too see what there is. There is always a little
something for everyone. From treats and sweets to socks and hygiene
products. Even the gift cards were a hit!
I hope to one day be able too make it up there for a
visit and be able to meet each and everyone of you and personally thank
you for not only sending us a little bit of home, but for helping to
reinforce that Home is why we're here. I am a Proud American and will
give my all for my Family, Friends, Loved Ones, and All of You and Our
Great County. God Bless ALL of YOU..!!!
